Yuvraj Singh keen to avenge Test series loss against England ? Cricket News Update

Prolific India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has said that the forthcoming One Day International series against England, commencing in Rajkot on January 11, will provide the Men in Blue an opportunity to avenge the Test series loss at the hands of the same opposition late last year.

"England defeated us in the Test series recently. They are a good unit. We have to play well to defeat them in the upcoming ODI series and avenge our loss," said the all-rounder during a media encounter in New Delhi on Monday.

India, fresh from a 1-2 ODI series defeat at the hands of arch nemesis Pakistan, suffered a rare 1-2 Test series crushing at the hands of England in November- December last year. This was the Three Lions? first series victory over India at the latter?s backyard in almost three decades.

Yuvraj, who has been impressive in shorter formats of the game since returning to competitive cricket after having recovered from a rare germ-cell cancer, failed to make an impact in the first three Tests of the four-match series. He was dropped for the final five-day encounter against the Poms owing to his struggling form, both with bat and ball.

However, he came back strongly in the limited-overs format, playing match-winning roles in the T20 series against England and Pakistan.

Though Yuvraj failed to play big innings in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Pakistan, he expressed satisfaction over his recent form and hoped to play match-winning role in the upcoming ODIs against the Poms.

"I am hitting the ball well and playing well in patches at the moment. I have been in good form in the T20s, hope to carry it forward and play longer innings in the series," the 31-year-old southpaw said.

Meanwhile, England?s prolific batsman Kevin Pietersen has singled out the stylish Punjab all-rounder as the danger-man in the Indian line-up and urged his bowlers to target his wicket come the opening one-dayer in Rajkot on Friday.

"He is the most destructive batsman in the Indian line-up. We get to get him early else he can take away the match from us," said Pietersen.
