New Android apps worth downloading: Zombies, Run! 5k Training, Zime (beta), Killer Escape

With the holidays officially behind us, it?s time to get in shape after all that eating and drinking. Zombies, Run! 5k Training can help with that, providing users a more incentive to get training for a 5k ? namely, an audio story about zombies chasing you. We?ve also got the beta version of 3-D to-do list app Zime, and Killer Escape, a point-and-click adventure game about escaping from a serial killer.

What?s it about? Train for a 5k run by taking on tasks and scenarios in Zombies, Run!, which imagines that you?re running during a zombie apocalypse.

What?s cool? You might have heard of fitness app Zombies, Run!, which encourages you to take up running by providing an audio story of a zombie apocalypse to play during your jogs. 5k Training is the same concept, but with a targeted focus on getting you ready to run a 5k in eight weeks. The audio stories give you some context and a scenario for each of your runs, and you can accomplish goals during those runs to progress the story. The whole thing helps to motivate and make training for your 5k a little more interesting.

Who?s it for? Runners (or would-be runners) who need a little more going on when they hit the treadmill or the sidewalk should check out Zombies, Run!, especially if you see a 5k in your future.

What?s it like? RunKeeper and Couch 2 5k by RunDouble are also solid alternatives to getting you in shape post-holidays, and there?s also the larger version of Zombies, Run! to consider.

What?s it about? Zime is a to-do list app currently in a beta, which presents your list of stuff to do in a cool, intuitive 3-D interface.

What?s cool? Zime?s user interface is probably what sets it apart most from the rest of the to-do list apps in the Google Play store, allowing you to create a timeline of items to accomplish, rather than just a simple list. You can zoom in and out on your timeline, move items around, prioritize tasks and set schedules. Zime is capable of syncing with just about any calendar apps or services you might use, so you?ll be able to keep track of any appointments you?ve made, and will also send you reminders.

Who?s it for? If you need additional organization in your life, Zime is a fresh take on existing to-do list apps.

What?s it like? Any.DO provides another great to-do list app, as does Wunderlist.

What?s it about? Point-and-click adventure game Killer Escape puts players in a cell, captured by a serial killer, and forces them to escape.

What?s cool? Mixing a bit of horror with the puzzle-solving gameplay of the adventure genre, Killer Escape requires you to keep your wits about you in order to make it through the game?s story. After waking up in a cell and learning that you?ve been captured by the killer, your only choice is to start looking around the cell for ways to escape and tools to use. The game keeps its creepy horror tone all the way through, and runs through a variety of different puzzles that stand between you and your freedom.

Who?s it for? Both horror game enthusiasts and fans of point-and-click adventures should give Psionic?s Killer Escape a try. Take note, though ? this one is not for kids.

What?s it like? Try Machinarium and Broken Sword for some more great adventure games.
