Important things to know about the MN nursing studies course at the ...

This MN course will enable you to become a highly competent, knowledgeable and skilful practitioner who is able to provide high quality nursing care in your chosen field of practice.

There are three pathways on the MN course: adult, child and mental health. Successful completion of this nursing masters degree will allow you to register to practice with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, in your chosen field.

You will gain skills in managing, delivering and enhancing nursing care for individuals and supporting their carers and families on the MN course. You will also learn to promote and support public health, as well as provide and support care in a variety of environments.

Opportunities also exist for Erasmus exchanges, which enable you to study for part of your MN course in another country.

This MN course programme normally runs over three years, but can be completed over a shorter period through a mix of accreditation of prior learning [APL] and programme attendance.

If you wish to enter the MN course via the APL route, you must demonstrate competence by completing a portfolio to evidence the clinical practice you have undertaken and appropriate experience you have gained.

Successful applicants via this route will complete a maximum of years two and three of the MN nursing course.

Year one of the MN course (for students not making an APL claim) is identical to, and jointly taught with, the first year of the bachelor of nursing.

To enrol on the MN course, you must meet our academic criteria. You must also have undertaken some formal academic study within the past five years.

The University of Southampton offers a range of postgraduate-level study options, which are specially designed to match the needs of employers.
