VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man who burglarized a home one month after being released from prison for another burglary has been sentenced to 21 years in prison, 10 of which have been suspended.
According to Macie Pridgen with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, 25-year-old Aaron C. Tingen was sentenced to 10 years in prison for burglarizing a home in February 2012, all of which were suspended.
Pridgen said Tingen was sentenced to serve another 11 years because the February 2012 burglary occurred a month after he was released from serving time in prison for a previous burglary, violating his probation.
?Tingen is an example of criminals who don?t appreciate, respect, or fear suspended jail time or good behavior provisions in their sentences. He proved that he?s either in jail or committing crimes. Society will be protected from him for the next ten years at least,? Commonwealth's Attorney Harvey Bryant said.
On Feb. 1, 2012, Tingen broke into a home with co-conspirator Paul Hawkins, stole jewelry, electronics, credit cards and medication from a Virginia Beach home. The home owner came back during the burglary at which point the two men fled the scene but were arrested shortly after.
Hawkins was also found guilty and is serving six years in prison.
Tingen's criminal record includes convictions for burglary, grand larceny, petit larceny, obstruction of justice, underage possession of alcohol, obtaining money by false pretenses and receiving stolen property.
