Herbert W. Lork, 75, Retired Executive Of Mercedes Benz / Freightliner

Herbert W. Lork,75, born in Wetzler, Germany on Jan. 24, 1937, died peacefully surrounded by family on Nov. 21, 2012, at Baptist Hospital East, Louisville, Ky.

He was a retired executive of Mercedes Benz / Freightliner and always was a Mercedes car enthusiast. As a naturalized citizen of the United States, he loved this country very much. He was very outgoing, a true gentleman and had many friends and family who will miss him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Lork and his children, Herbert W. Lork Jr. (Tiss), Cynthia C. Dunaway (Bruce), Ronald J. Vogel (Linda), Dolores M. Anderson (Donald); his grandchildren, Ben, Brittany and Brennan (Amber) Hancock, Stephanie (David), Thomas and Jeffrey Vogel, Matthew, Michael and Melanie Anderson, five great grandchildren and his special companion, Cindy Clifford.

A Memorial Service was held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, at Pearson?s, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation was from 2 to 5 Sunday at Pearson?s.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Herbert Lork?s name to the Baptist East Cancer Care Program, or the Alzheimer Association.

Raymond Joseph Schaftlein, 77, Retired SFC In The US Army And Owner Of Captain?s Cellar

Raymond Joseph Schaftlein, 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at his home in the East End of Louisville.

He was a retired SFC in the U.S. Army and served in the Kentucky Army National Guard for 35 years, working primarily out of the Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort, Ky., in the 306th Maintenance Unit and 413th Ordnance Company. He served in many youth sports volunteer positions including president of the Lyndon Sports Recreation Program and athletic director at Mother of Good Council (MGC) Catholic Church. He owned and operated the retail wine and liquor store, Captain?s Cellar, for the past 25 years. He was active in the Flaget Alumni Association.

As a life-long Louisville resident, Ray attended St. Denis grade school, graduated with the Flaget class of 1953, and attended the University of Louisville which he truly loved and followed all throughout his life as a loyal fan. He was an accomplished football and baseball player, a member of the 1952 City, Catholic and State Championship team.
Ray was a loving husband, father, friend and coach to many. Ray was always doing his best to live his Catholic faith on a daily basis and he set an example for others by following his religious principles. Ray was among the early parishioners at MGC. He also ushered Sunday church service for decades until the church closed in 2009. He then joined and attended St. Albert the Great.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, the former Jane Elizabeth Davis; three sons, Mark D. and his girlfriend Giselle Serrano of Delray Beach, Fla., Timothy E. and his wife Cynthia and their two children Christopher and Eryck of Lodi, Calif., and Charles ?Joseph? of Louisville, Ky.; and a daughter, Shari Margaret and her husband David H. Johnson of Alexandria, Va.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret E. and Bernard H. Sr.; sister Margie C. Burks; and brother Bernard H. Jr.

A funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Alberts Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation was from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at J.B. Ratterman & Sons East, 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews, Ky.

W. Neville Caudill M.D., 78, Retired Urologist

W. Neville Caudill M.D., 78, of Louisville, passed away in his sleep Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Highlands Nursing and Rehab Center.
Dr. Caudill was born in 1933 in Boston to Dr. Fred Weldon and Edna Frank Caudill. He graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1951. He attended the University of Louisville and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955. While at the University of Louisville he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, served in student government, and sang in the barber shop quartet. In 1959 Dr. Caudill graduated from the University of Louisville School Of Medicine.

Dr. Caudill served nine years in the US Public Health Service before leaving to start his private practice in urology in Louisville. He retired from medicine after 40 years of medical practice. Upon retirement he divided his time between international travel to Egypt, Turkey, Russia, Germany and China and his love of archeology and gardening. Dr. Caudill had a true love of music and would not hesitate to perform for family and friends on the piano, dulcimer, or ukulele.

Dr. Caudill was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Fred W. Caudill and Edna Frank Caudill; and his brother, Welden Caudill.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lena Masterson Caudill; sister, Carole Birkhead (Ben); sister, Linda Roberts (Lynn); former wife, Eleanor McFarland Caudill; daughter, Cathy Caudill; daughter, Eleanor Josephson DVM (Bill); son, Fred Caudill M.D. (Elizabeth); son, William N. Caudill Jr. (Lora); son, Hendrix ?Mac? Caudill (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Rus, Hank, and Polly Whalen, Penelope and Marcellus Josephson, Caspar and Dominic Caudill, Allison, Samantha, and Ellie Caudill; as well as his four-legged companions, BJ and Danika.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dr. Caudill?s name to The Baptist Hospital Foundation, 4007 Kresge Way, Louisville, Ky., 40207.

Jewell Valentine Cockerill, 88, Beloved Wife And Mother

Jewell Valentine Cockerill, 88, of Louisville, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Summerfield Health and Rehab Center.
Jewell was a Baptist by faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William O. Cockerill; son, William E. Cockerill; son-in-law, Gene Davis; and nine siblings.
Jewell is survived by her children, Lynn Davis, Wayne Cockerill (Jeanne), Butch Cockerill (Patti), J.D. Cockerill (Kellie), Lisa Howell (Dave), and Steven Cockerill (Sharon); daughter-in-law, Mary Cockerill; 15 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Davis.

A funeral service to honor the life of Jewell was held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 4, 2012, at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway, with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation for the public was from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alton D. ?Al? Huff Jr., 77, Retired from Bremner Biscuit Company

Alton D. ?Al? Huff Jr., 77, of Louisville, passed away Saturday at his home.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., he was born to the late Alton and Gertrude Huff. He was retired from Bremner Biscuit Company, a member of the Friday Morning Sr. Bowling League, a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa D. Huff; children, Judy A. Whatton (Gerry), Dan J. Huff and Michael J. Huff (Kathy); his grandchildren, Jamey, Kelly, Dan, Kristy, Rachel, Joshua, Sarah, Hayley and Hannah; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Huff.

His Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 1520 Hepburn Ave., with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East with military honors. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ratterman?s, 3711 Lexington Road.

?Miss Norma? Hellmueller Dugan, 84, Dancer

?Miss Norma? Hellmueller Dugan, 84, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.

She was a 1947 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. Dance was her life! Miss Norma had a dance studio from the late fifties until she retired in 2005. Throughout all these years, she had hundreds of children and adults that loved her very much.

She was one of the selected dancers at the Iroquois Amphitheater for the summer stock productions from 1947 to 1953. In 1948, she danced on the first television broadcast of WAVE-TV in Louisville with a dance solo for four following Saturday programs.

She was a member of Queen?s Daughters.

She was predeceased by her husband, William T. Dugan; her mother, Margaret Long Hellmueller; her brother, Lawrence P. Hellmueller; and this July by her sister, Margaret M. Hellmueller.

She is survived by her daughter ?Miss Natalie? Dugan; her brother, Leo A. Hellmueller; and a cousin, ?Miss Margo? Grether.

A service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Pearson, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Murphy Mcgraw, 94, Retired Elementary School Teacher

Mary Elizabeth Murphy Mcgraw, 94, passed away peacefully at her home early Friday morning, Nov. 30, 2012.

She was born in Fordsville, Ky., but grew up in Louisville with her two sisters, Alberta and Tillie. She retired as an elementary school teacher after over 30 years in the Jefferson County Public Schools. She reportedly had a record number of former students come back to her schools to visit with her and thank her for being their favorite teacher. Prior to her teaching career, she held numerous positions, including working for Woolworth?s, A.B. Dick, Brown Forman, Oleanda Park summer director and Curtis Wright, where she made parts for the B-53 bomber during World War II.

Mary was a graduate of Girls? High School at the current location of duPont Manual High School, where her late husband Woodson and all of her children attended high school. Mary received her master?s degree from Spalding University and was just a few hours away from her doctorate. She was active in the Oakdale Methodist Church near Churchill Downs until the Church was converted into the Kentucky Racing Authority.

Mary?s first love in life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved her Irish heritage, watching her children play baseball, basketball and football, arguing with referees, cooking family meals, playing card games, taking care of her dog ?Meathead? during his life, playing piano, square dancing and bowling. She and her late husband bowled in leagues, and she bowled above 200 on numerous occasions.

She played basketball and softball on the same teams as her daughter. Mary enjoyed many happy times with friends. Her favorite group of friends was the ONO Club (Our Night Out) including Olice, Frankie, Kathleen, Alice, Ethel, Edna, Anita and Hazel, who shared fun together for over 40 years.

Mary loved staying at home with family and friends. She lived over nine decades without ever getting on an airplane. Even so, she traveled by car throughout the U.S.
Mary also loved Regina as her best friend, who eventually became her main caregiver. They spent many years together, sharing the good times as well as the tough times. Many thanks also to her other caregivers: Kelly, Sue, Theresa and Jeanie.

Many people claim to have the best Mom in the world but Mary was just that. She always put her children?s interests way above her own and was fiercely loyal and supportive of her extended family.

She is survived by her sons, Woodson McGraw Jr. (MarEva) and Mick McGraw (Cheryl); daughter, Nancy Thompson (Glenn); grandchildren Emily, Scott, Ron, Melissa, Kelly, Brian and Julie; and great grandchildren, Ben, Maggie, Catherine, Ronan, Maura, Harrison, Chase, Avery, Crawford, Jack and Nate, all of whom want to confirm her status as grandmother of the century.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway. A celebration of her life was held on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 10 a.m., with interment following in Louisville Memorial Gardens Cemetery next to her husband of 55 years, Woodson.

Marion W. ?Sonny? Lewis III, 90, Founder And Former President Of Lewis Industrial Supply Co.

Marion W. ?Sonny? Lewis III, 90, died Friday at Baptist Hospital East.

He was the founder and former president of Lewis Industrial Supply Co. and a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, a life member of Juniper Club and a member of Louisville Country Club.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marjorie ?Sissy? Smith; and also his sister, Nancy Lewis Stewart.

Survivors include his two daughters, Lindsey Brooks and Ann Tyler Lewis-Berra. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooks Baunach, Scott Ashton Gallaher, Kelly Ann Payne (Michael Scott) and Michael Tyler Berra; and three great grandchildren, Walden Chase Baunach, Casten Brooks Baunach and Riley Ann Payne.

A burial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cane Station Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, 821 S. Fourth St. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Pearson?s, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Memorial gifts may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church Outreach Program or Home of the Innocents.
