Israel's U.S. Ambassador Oren to resign post

Israel?s ambassador to Washingon, Michael Oren, stated on Friday evening that he expects to complete his term of service this coming fall. Oren did not specify an exact date in his statement, but a high-ranking official in Jerusalem has said that Oren will return to Israel in late September.

"After over four years I will complete my duties this coming fall,? Oren said in a statement. ?I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given to represent Israel and its government?Israel and the United States have always, and will always enjoy a special relationship, and I have had the privilege of playing a central role in shaping these bonds, and making them stronger. I hope to continue to serve Israel in the future.?

Oren was appointed ambassador to the U.S. in 2009. His term was extended by three months after the last Israeli election, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had yet to decide who would replace him. Oren, however, told Netanyahu that he wished to return to Israel and did not want his term extended.

The leading candidate to replace Oren as Israel?s ambassador to Washington is his associate Ron Dermer, who has served as Netanyahu?s political consultant over the past four years. Netanyahu has yet to make an official statement naming Dermer Oren?s successor, as he has not made a final decision on the matter.

Dermer is a strong candidate as he enjoys a great deal of trust with the Prime Minster. On the other hand, he is not highly regarded in the White House. The Obama administration views Dermer as a strong supporter of the Republican Party, and one of the central figures responsible for the strong alliance between Netanyahu and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who lost the election in November 2012.

Motorola opens Google Moto X Phone page ahead of rumored August release date

Japan's Aussie wool story

JAPANESE textile giant Nikke is planning to use the story of Australia's Great Dividing Range in a new campaign to promote Australian wool in their homeland.

Nikke, known as The Japan Wool Textile Company, is the country's largest end-user of wool, producing everything from school uniforms to suits for Emperor Akihito.

Chief executive and president Mitsuyoshi Sato was in Australia last month, scoping out potential ideas for a new Australian wool campaign.

Australian Superfine Woolgrowers Association (ASWGA) president Helen Cathles, who showed Mr Sato around several properties on the Southern Tablelands, said in the past Nikke had focused on New Zealand wool in the promotion of their wool brand.

When they expressed an interest in Australia, she suggested they consider the Great Dividing Range as it marked the start of the majority of the superfine woolgrowing country in Australia.

"They are after that story of provenance and you only need to look at a map of where the Australian shoreline was 400 million years ago to see it sits over all the area now where beautiful superfine Merino wool is grown," she said.

Mrs Cathles said traceability was important to Nikke with each of the school uniforms it produced fitted with a barcode that allowed it to be traced back to the exact property where the wool used for the garment was grown.

"All ASWGA members have their own numbers that the garments can be traced back to," she said.

"This is made possible as Nikke have the ability to scour, topmake, weave, knit and produce the final garment, hence, they can accurately pin point the origin of the individual woolgrower."

Tropical Storm Erick Forms Near Mexico

As Dalila continued to crawl away from land early Friday, Tropical Storm Erick formed south of Mexico.

The warm waters off the Mexican coast should help the system maintain its current status as a tropical storm.

The AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center expects this system to track northwestward through the weekend with its center of heaviest rain and strongest winds remaining offshore.

Its outer rain bands may still graze the southern Mexican coastline, accompanied by flooding downpours. That is especially true where the system will pass closest to land, likely from Acapulco to Manzanillo.

The system will also prolong the rough surf and rip current danger that was kicked up by Dalila along the south-central and southwestern coast, creating hazards to both residents and vacationers.

Meanwhile, Dalila has weakened into a tropical depression, spinning about 410 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. It will continue to spin away from mainland Mexico, eventually reaching cooler waters and weakening further over the weekend.

Rough surf and rip currents will remain a concern along the Mexican southwestern coastline, near Manzanillo, through late Thursday as Dalila's flooding rain and damaging winds stay well offshore.
